Join the Club
The Leicester Cobras are open to anyone (12 years and over) to join the club. If you are interested in trying the exciting sport of wheelchair basketball the Leicester Cobras run a series of taster sessions at regular intervals throughout the year. For the latest information please see the Development page and get in touch. All new players will need to join the club to be covered by BWB’s insurance. However, the first four training sessions are free for new members, to see if you like the sport.
Membership of the Leicester Cobras is paid monthly (over 10 months per year) by Standing Order; the cost is:
Category-A – All adult league registered active Club Members – £26 per month
All adult (over 18) players registered for the BWB National League. All league-registered club members are expected to regularly attend the
weekly training sessions and be available for league matches. They will also use the club-owned player’s kit for league matches.
Category-B – All other active Club Members – £20 per month
All other players including; all juniors (under 19 but over 14) registered for the BWB National League, players registered only for the BWB
Women’s League, all recreational (non-league registered) players. All league-registered club members are expected to regularly attend the
weekly training sessions and be available for league matches. They will also use the club-owned player’s kit for league matches.
Recreational players and pre-juniors will not receive any players’ kit.
Category-C – Pre-Juniors (under 14 years old) – £10 per month
All players attending training are under 14 years old and too young to be registered players. Pre-juniors will not receive any player’s kit.
Category-D – All associate Club Members – Free of charge
Associate club membership is for all non-training coaches or non-competing members of the Cobras; typically, these are volunteers, officials,
helpers, friends, family and supporters. Associate club members will not receive any player’s kit. The Leicester Cobras will also cover the cost of
any BWB membership for members in this category.
**Adult club members are over 18 years of age (as of midnight on 31 December 2023)
***Junior club members are under 19 years of age (as of midnight on 31 December 2023)
These membership fees go towards the cost of the league registration fees and the venue hire; and must be paid even if you don’t attend training regularly, as the Leicester Cobras still have to hire the venue.
Membership runs from the 1st of June to the 31st of May each year. The Leicester Cobras have a selection of Basketball Wheelchairs that new players can use to get used to the sport and see if they enjoy playing it. This is a great benefit for inexperienced players as the specialist wheelchairs that are used for basketball are very expensive to buy.
If you would like to be involved in another way…
There are many ways you can get involved with the Leicester Cobras – from becoming a player or just having a go at the sport at one of our training sessions, volunteering to help behind the scenes or just coming to support the team at one of our home matches. Once you have been to just one game you will be hooked. Wheelchair basketball is action-packed excitement all the way!

The Leicester Cobras would like to thank all from our previous venue of Leicester Leys Leisure Centre who have been a massive support in building the club over the last 16+ years. We couldn’t have made it this far without all the support from Leicester Leys Leisure Centre.
