TRAINING SESSIONS

BWB RETURN TO PLAY – STAGE 4 UPDATE

Further to the recent news that COVID-19 precautionary measures are once again to be strengthened British Wheelchair Basketball has taken the decision to make the wearing of face masks mandatory by all participants other than those who are actively participating on-court, this includes officials, coaches, team bench personnel and spectators.

We are also asking that any participant that has been in contact with a household member who either has COVID-19 symptoms (and not yet had a negative PCR test) or has tested positive from COVID-19 does not attend training or competition.

We have always adopted a cautionary approach with regards to our Return to Play Guidance and have been clear that our priority is the health and wellbeing of all our participants within the wheelchair basketball community. We hope you can understand our decision to adopt these additional measures.

Updated Stage 4 Guidance and Matrix documents, as well as an updated Participant Risk Assessment can be found on the BWB Website COVID-19 Section.

Regular training sessions are very important for players to develop their own skills and for the club to develop the teams as a whole. The Cobras provide a variety of training sessions to accommodate the different skill levels of the players and of the teams.

All players should also be developing their personal fitness and skills outside of the Cobras’ training sessions. This can be done in lots of different cost-effective ways. You don’t need a court to practice ball skills or shooting… just a ball and some space. Any regular exercise, especially if intensive, will help to develop stamina and fitness. You could also try complimentary sports like hand cycling, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair badminton and wheelchair racing to improve stamina and fitness.

It’s really down to every player. The more you put into developing your skills and fitness, the more you will get out of it.
